Tutti Friuli: A Friuli Trattoria Review

             

I’ve always wondered what the establishment’s name literally means so I looked it up in Wikipedia.

Friuli: an area of northeastern Italy with its own particular cultural and historical identity.

Trattoria: an Italian-style eating establishment, less formal than a ristorante, but more formal than an osteria. There are generally no printed menus, the service is casual, wine is sold by the decanter rather than the bottle, prices are low, and the emphasis is on a steady clientele rather than on haute cuisine.

Okay so I guess we can say that “Friuli Trattoria” is in reference to an Italian-style food establishment inspired by an area in northeaster Italy.

I had dinner with a friend at Friuli after we watched a play at UP (check out my previous post! :D). I’ve actually eaten here a couple of times before.  I’ve tried my first pesto here, and since then pesto has been my favorite pasta, primarily because I enjoy all the oiliness of it all.

Friuli Trattoria is located along Maginhawa Street in Teacher’s Village, Diliman, Quezon City. It’s just a short walk from my place so it’s a good choice for me if I’m craving for Italian food…although honestly that rarely happens since I’m not really a big fan of cheesy food.

The place is just small and it's not exactly a high-end restaurant, but it's comfortable enough with the ambiance giving you an Italian vibe, with matching Italian music. Aside from the pesto, I’ve also tried several of their pastas before and they’re all good! I recommend the following bestselling dishes:

Viva Venezia (pizza)

Angel hair Putanesca (pasta..duh)

Spaghetti Al Pesto  (The garlic bread’s good too!)

Margherita (pizza)

Mozarella Sticks (although I didn’t really enjoy this much. Not a fan of cheese remember?)

You can also get a pitcher of  of iced tea for only Php 60.00! I love this part best because I drink a lot when I eat, I can have that pitcher all for myself.

The price is very affordable too considering they serve really good food. We got the pesto that night for only Php 140.00 and a 10-inch Viva Venezia for only Php 210.00. Their serving for pasta can be good for 2 people although a really hungry me can finish that by myself too.

For just Php 410.00, we already got a good Italian dinner for two.
