Bigger is Better: A Nolita Review

I’ve been around Bonifacio High Street for so long and now I ask myself, “Why haven’t I discovered Nolita sooner?!”

Nolita (North of Little Italy) serves authentic New York style pizza by the SLICE. Yep, that has to be in all-caps because man, this is one pizza diner where the slices that you get are larger than your plates!

Don’t worry though because size isn’t the only thing that matters at Nolita. The pizza they serve here are as good as they are big. As I looked at my order I thought I’m going to finish only half of it, but I ended up gobbling the whole thing in no time. Apparently, my tummy makes more room when it knows I’m eating good food. I’ve tried their best-selling pizza flavors: Sausage Pepperoni Mushroom, Roasted Veggies with Chicken, Buffalo Chicken (don’t be confused, this is still pizza), Chicken Parmesan, and Mushroom Walnut. Okay don’t judge me just yet, I had a bit of help from friends in gobbling up all those goodies. And I went here twice in the past week so those are really a compilation of my two visits.

Sausage Pepperoni Mushroom, Php 250/slice

Roasted Veggies with Chicken, Php 250/slice

Buffalo Chicken, Php 250 / slice
Chicken Parmesan, Php 250/slice
 Mushroom Walnut, Php 250/slice
What I loved about Nolita is that whatever flavour you order, you’re sure to get slices that are generously loaded with cheese and toppings. If you knew me personally you’d know that I’m not a big fan of cheese so I usually go for the ones that has more toppings and less dairy. If you’re a carnivore like me, I’d personally recommend Sausage Pepperoni Mushroom, Buffalo Chicken, and Chicken Parmesan. These are the flavors that are overloaded with meat and spices, you can easily pick-out the chunks! The crust itself has the right thickness and softness, perfectly balancing the overwhelming toppings.

For drinks, I recommend their mojitos. You can order non-alcoholic ones if you wish. The Ginger Lemonade, Iced Wild Berry, and Fruit sodas are also must-tries.

Iced Wild Berry at Php 110, Watermelon Mojito at Php 130, and Ginger Lemonade at Php 160
Fruit Soda at Php 220
If you’re a newbie and will be visiting Nolita for the first time, keep in mind that there are Rules *evil laugh* Just kidding. If you look around the walls you’ll see some helpful instructions on how to have the best Nolita experience:

1.      Line –up. If there is no line, just go to the front. (Yep, it’s self-service here. You don’t sit and ask the waiter for the menu. Get that butt up and order at the counter!).

2.     Pick from the Menu. Order pizza from the pizza guys (ohhh so that’s what they’re called). Everything else (including drinks) from the cashier.

3.      Pay for your meal. (There’s no service charge by the way *cough TIP cough*).

4.      Grab your food. Get pizza and drinks from the counter. Other orders will be brought to your table.

5.       Find a seat. (Or you can share a table with that nice lady over there).

6.       Don’t use utensils. Eat with your hands! (You’re having pizza, remember?!).

7.       Repeat. Make Nolita a habit (Yep, you have no choice).

On my first visit, naturally my first reaction was to use a knife and a fork. But man, rule number 6 does make a point. We’re eating pizza here! Use your hands! You can fold the whole slice to make it easier. Now those paper plates start to make sense.

Take note though, there’s a whole lot of other grub they serve here aside from pizzas. There are burgers, sandwiches, side dishes like onion rings…and I’ve heard their Funnel Cake tastes great too! I’d be looking forward to some dessert on my next visit!
