Latest Miyazaki movie, “The Wind Rises”, gets a 2014 Release Date
Finally! I’ve been wondering when
I would get to see another Hayao Miyazaki movie, as I’ve been a fan of his
earlier works. It would seem that I would get to see it this year – and it’s
gonna be next month!
Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese film
director, animator, manga artist, and the man behind some of my favourite anime
feature films such as Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro,
and Howl’s Moving Castle. As a guy who often prefers disturbing movies that
messes up the mind, Miyazaki’s works are the kind that reminds me of how it’s
like to be a kid and to see the nicer things in life (ahem).
Miyazaki’s latest film is
entitiled “The Wind Rises” (Kaze Tashinu in Japan) and has been released in
Japan on July 2013. It is set to be released in North America on February 21,
2014 by Touchstone Pictures. While most of his past movies have been works of
fantasy and make-believe, Miyazaki seemed to have woken up in the real world
with “The Wind Rises”. It is a fictionalized biography of Jiro Horikoshi an
engineer of the jetfighters Mitsubishi A5M and the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, which
have been used in World War II. Check out its trailer below:

I don’t know about you but to me the
film seemed to have a darker feel compared to Miyazaki’s earlier works. The film
shows a 1923 earthquake in Tokyo and even the Great Depression. So much for
seeing the nicer things in life, huh.
Miyazaki has also announced that
this is going to be his last film before he retires.
