Nomnom'in N'Awlins: A "New Orleans" Review
I’ve seen on Mad TV that New
Orleans (in Louisiana) is known pretty much for their Jambalaya and Barbecue
Slab Ribs. With this, I remembered that there’s a New Orleans restaurant right
beside Clawdaddy’s from where I work, so when I was given the offer, I went ahead and tried these
two dishes that were said to be a specialty of the city.
Seafood Jambalaya – Php 435.00
Now would you look at that
beauty. One look and I didn’t think twice about digging in to the colorful mix
of Creole rice casserole with holy trinity, okra, Andouille sausages, calamari,
white shrimp, fish fillet and of course, jambalaya spices.
Now I can tell why this is the
pride of “Nawlins”. The rice itself is already bursting with spicy flavor, and
the huge chunks of other ingredients already make this rice meal good on its
own! I wasn’t a huge fan of the okra, but the strong flavor of the jambalaya
spices neutralized it so I didn’t really mind. If you’re not that much into
seafood, you can also try their Chicken and
Sausage Jambalaya (Php 435.00), which is basically the same thing except
that you replace all the seafood with chicken fillet.
Baby Back Ribs – (Php 1,098.00 for full slab)
When this baby came in I
exclaimed “now this is what I’m talking about!”.
I savored the US pork baby back
ribs with in all its “slide-off-the-bone” tenderness. It’s been marinated in
their special dry rub and slow-cooked until you have one tender and juicy
barbecue. I like my ribs a bit sweet and that is what I got so I’m pretty happy
with the result. However, for a specialty dish, this doesn’t stand out very
much from the others as much as the Seafood Jambalaya did. It’s a good meal nonetheless so I was
happy.
It comes with a variety of
sidings choices such as mashed potatoes, coleslaw, dirt rice, and several
others. Since we already have Jambalaya, we had potato fries instead to go with
our ribs. You can also opt to order for a half-slab for Php 549.00.
Now if you were able to check out
my Clawdaddy’s review, you may remember that I introduced a new social
marketing platform called Taggo, that lets customers enjoy discounts and/or
freebies by simply “Liking” a restaurant’s fan club. The good news is, New
Orleans is also a Taggo restaurant member, so you can also enjoy the same discounts
offered at Clawdaddy’s.
I’m a bit worried that this isn’t
gonna help much with my 2015 resolution to go on a diet :P
