Past Meets Present: The 29th Visual Arts Competition
Do they still hold those
poster-making contests in schools? I remember waaay back when I was in High
School, I used to be an eager participant every time our SSL holds a
poster-making competition. Armed with my oil pastels and a large, crisp, white cartolina,
I enthusiastically drew watermelons, cabbages, and different variations of
Grow, Glow, and Go foods strategically piled up before a plump boy with a spoon
on his hand. Looking back, I knew that I should’ve been more creative with my
posters for the Nutrition Month.
Even though the past is a long
way behind me now, somehow I think still have that thirst to be creative and I
still feel that small spark when I hear of art competitions. One of which is
the Visual Arts Competition announced last January 21 at the 4th floor Annex,
SM City North Edsa. If I was a year younger and had some sort of decent
photography skills, I would probably be itching to get my hands on a camera and
preparing my own entry.
Ever since its inception in 1987,
the Visual Arts Competition of Directiories Philippines Cororation (DPC), and the Philippine Long
Distance Company (PLDT) has been a beacon of artistic melting ground of the
country’s finest artists. Since 2011, the VAC has employed digital photography
as its medium of entry to engage the ever-growing number of young but highly
creative Filipino photo enthusiasts.
To inspire fresh ways that the
Filipino youth can see our county and our culture, DPC and PLDT are adopting
“Past Meets Present” as the official VAC 29 theme.
Now the coolest part is the
prizes. The grand prize winner will take home P100,000 in cash, a special trophy
designed by sculptor Impy Pilapil, and a Canon EOS 700 D digital camera. In addition, his or her school will
receive a donation worth P40,0000 –
in cash or in kind – for its visual arts program from DPC and PLDT, plus a Canon PIXMA printer. The next two major
winners and their respective schools will receive similar prizes.
To know more about the
competition, the guidelines, and the prizes, you can visit their website here.
Be quick about it though because all entries must be uploaded to the contest’s
website between January 21 and February 24, 2015 (up to 11:59pm).
